There IS Hope!
Have you ever felt as if your strengths were not being maximized within your career? Maybe you somehow found yourself in a job position that you feel unprepared for but do not know how to confidently move forward. If this is true for you, just know you are not alone.
Last week, we were assisting a client who explained that she had worked from an associate to a managerial position when she was in her 20s. She was struggling because she felt as if she did not have enough adequate training to confidently lead a team. This situation is becoming more prevalent in a job market that necessitates expedited position advancement so that empty positions can be filled as quickly as possible. When advising her, we offered these tips:
Rediscover Your Strengths
Think introspectively and determine what makes you a good candidate in your field.
Example - I am a quick learner and I have an overall friendly and personable demeanor. Having these qualities allows me to be a successful new hire as well as confident and enthusiastic with customer engagement.
Check On Your Resume
With a large portion of the hiring process taking place online nowadays, making sure that your resume is as detailed and up-to-date as possible is very important.
Update skills, education, job history, overall verbiage, etc.
Scan for grammar/spelling errors and correct.
Seek Support
You do not have to do this alone! Widen your network of peers and resources in your field. To successfully lead a team, you must first be a part of a successful team.
Example - Familiarize yourself with hiring platforms such as LinkedIn to get your name in the loop of your area and to find relevant resources in your network.
Following the advisement session with our client, she thanked us for giving her hope. Hope for her future, her career, her team, and even her overall wellbeing. Sometimes all you need to get unstuck from a discouraging phase in your career is a listening ear and a little bit of hope.
