Setting Goals That Stick
Setting Goals That Stick!
Having just passed the Jewish New Year, I started thinking about how many days remained in 2021? As of today (Sept. 13), there are 109 days until the end of the year.
That begs the question/s – What were your New Year’s Resolution’s and how are you doing at achieving them?
If you believe in the 21/90 rule, then it takes 21 days to form a habit, and 90 days to make a permanent lifestyle change. So, this is a GREAT place to jumpstart where you want to be in 2022 (and no one ever said that January 1st is the only time to create a resolution anyway!).
First and foremost, start organizing your TO-DO list based upon what makes you happy, and helps you achieve your life goals.
There are MANY small habits that can have HUGE returns:
1) Make your bed – MUCH has been written about this one! Everything from accomplishing something, to better productivity, to a more organized mind have all been attributed to making your bed every day.
2) Read 60 minutes each day. Whether you select a self-help book, something from the non-fiction section or a novel in a genre you enjoy, the benefits are the same. Better brain connectivity, stress reduction including lower blood pressure and prevents cognitive decline as you age are all shown to be benefits from reading just an hour a day!
3) Walk 30 minutes a day. You really can’t emphasize enough the benefits of simply walking. It will increase your cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, reduce your risk of chronic disease, sharpen your brain, and make your heart happier!
4) Meditate. Meditation lengthens your attention span, controls anxiety, reduces stress, and you can do it anywhere! If you aren’t sure how to meditate, there are many apps such as Headspace or Calm that can guide you.
5) Donate $5 to charity a month because compassion, support, and a willingness to help others should be something we all prioritize.
Take the next week or two to start thinking about what brings you happiness. Each evening, make a list of what you enjoyed about the day, what went well, what didn’t and what you missed even. At the end of the week, review your lists collectively. Start thinking about what you need to do so that your life starts to reflect your priorities. Let’s start living intentionally and purposefully.
